Time on island
As a young boy, I would travel to the island in the early/mid fifties. My uncle Luke Adams, born and raised on grand isle would take our families to the Acadiana cottage where he was born. The old house was down the lane from the church and near the old coast guard station, of which the lane was oleandor lane. After my uncle Luke's death the property was sold to the school. I also visited the island, with a neighboring family from Metairie, very kind and special folks. We would stay in the "Mary Ann" all summer and go hone in time to return to school. During the winter, we visited almost every weekend. The mother of my friend taught me how to swim in the surf, she made sure I got it right. These times were special and will forever be etched in my memory. By the way Captain Sebastian, Mrs Sebastian, and their two sons Tony and Timmy were friends, we had so much fun on that island.
