The Grand Isle State Park officially reopened June 1, 2023, for the first time since closing for Hurricane Ida.

“We are thrilled to have the Grand Isle State Park back open,” said Grand Isle Mayor David Camardelle. “This is a big step in our recovery and just in time for locals and visitors to enjoy for the summer. The State Park plays a major role in our local economy as an RV Park and campground for those visiting the State Park and island. We are thrilled to have it back.”

Several things to note before you go:

  • RV and tent campsites are all open! Reservations can be made at www.Reservelastateparks.com
  • Beach Campsites are not open.
  • The beach is fully reopen.
  • The fishing pier is still undergoing repair and remains closed to the public.

Hurricane Ida came ashore near Grand Isle as a category 4 on Aug. 29, 2021, with winds of up to 150 mph. One of the most powerful storms to hit the United States, Ida devastated Grand Isle. Nearly every one of the town’s 2,500 structures was damaged and 700 homes were destroyed. It took months before the water and power were fully restored.
